Additional informations
Final assembly of He 162 M34 was completed during February 1945 at the Heinkel Works in Vienna, Schwechat. The Fuselage was assembled in the underground "Languste" assembly plant in Hinterbrühl. The first flight was undertaken by Gerhard Gleuwitz at the factory field Heidfeld on March 23 rd 1945. The "Sparrow" was probably lost on March 31st 1945 at Langenlebarn near Tulln. On this day three Heinkel 162's made an intermediate landing there after the Heinkel factory had to be evacuated. One aircraft overshot the runway and overturned. Pieces of wreckage possibly from this aircraft were still scattered there after the war.
The aircraft is finished in the standard RLM camouflage of 81/82/76. Unusual is the demarcation line between upper and lower camouflage. It is not like on other He 162's in a straight, clear line but has a wavy pattern. Whether the model (prototype) number was actually painted on this aircraft is not known. Since in all known photographs of trial aircraft the number was painted on, it is certainly possible that the M34 also carried this marking. |

My special thanks go to Mirsolav Bily and Michal
Bradac for the kind permission to use their drawings
as base for my work. They were taken from Miroslav

1978 I was born in Vienna
and I am working as technical employee in an architect's office.
I am building plastic models since I am 12. It started with
a F-16 Fighting Falcon in 1/32, which was followed by a few
cars and trucks. A Heinkel He111 H-6 in 1/72 brood my interest
for the German Luftwaffe. Since 2001 I am creating color profiles
also.
Some of them have been already published in relevant magazines
and books. The motto for building models and drawing profiles
is the same: Learning by Doing. To practise my passion it is
required to collect the necessary documentation, an expensive,
but interesting hobby, especially when I can obtain rare second
hand aviation antiquars. |
